LIU and SHU to meet in the finals after shutout wins
The stage is set for the NEWHA finals as Long Island and Sacred Heart shutout their opponents on Wednesday.
Fairfield, Conn. - Sacred Heart will advance to the NEWHA championship after taking down the number five-seed Saint Anselm Wednesday night. Sacred Heart took the lead early as sophomore Bria Holm put one to the back of the net from Isabella Chaput at 14:34 in the first period. The Pioneers found success on the power play finishing 2-3, with Sami Bowleby scoring in the second and Grayson Limke in the third. Goalie Carly Greene made 50 saves in between the pipes, to shutout the Hawks and collect her second playoff shutout this season.
East Meadow, N.Y. - Long Island punched out Post on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the NEWHA finals. In the competitive match-up, the Sharks took the lead first and held on to it, in a 2-0 victory. The first period remained scoreless until Jeanie Wallner sparked the offense just 28 seconds into the second. To help secure the lead, forward Ryane Kearns scored the second and final goal of the game. Long Island's defense was strong, only allowing 14 shots on goal, while Abbie Thompson recorded her third straight playoff shutout.
