FAIRFIELD, Conn. — With a perfect start to her season, Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey goaltender Carly Greene has been named the Hockey Commissioners Association's (HCA) Women's Goaltender of the Month, the HCA announced Friday.
Greene, who enters the month of November with an unblemished 3-0-0 record, grabs her first HCA award in over a year after being named to the HCA Goaltender of the Year Watch List near the end of the 2022-23 season. The honor is the first-ever national accolade the Pios have received from the HCA.
The Minnetonka, Minn., native has been monumental for the Pios through the first six games of the season as SHU currently sits atop the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) standings with a 3-1-0 record in conference play and a 4-2-0 record overall. Greene, who has earned the starting nod in the last three games, has grabbed two shutouts during that time including an impressive 45-save shutout against Saint Anselm on October 12 for SHU's first conference win of the season.
The senior netminder currently boasts the nation's top save percentage (.975) and the nation's second-best goals-against average (0.95) heading into the weekend. Through 46 career games, Greene has posted a .922 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against average while getting closer to her single-season high in shutouts having earned three in her sophomore season.
