WORCESTER, Mass. - Friday evening, the Assumption University women's ice hockey team fell in their NCAA home opener to Rochester Institute of Technology, 3-2 at the Worcester Ice Center.

THE BASICS:
Score: Rochester Institute of Technology 3, Assumption University 2
Records: Greyhounds (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NEWHA), Tigers (1-0-2, 0-0-2, CHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption began the game aggressively right from the faceoff, firing five early shots at the Tigers. However, it would be RIT to open up the scoring as Megan McCormick gave the Tigers a one-score lead six minutes into the first period. The momentum swung in the favor of RIT as Assumption looked to respond. Sheridan Terrazzano had a good look in the middle of the first period, although the opposing goalie saved the shot attempt. The Hounds were unable to find a reply. At 16:07, Nicole Ness found another score for the Tigers, giving RIT a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.

The Greyhounds started the second period searching for their season's first score. Sheridan Terrazzano found the back of the net off Lilley Caroline's assist only two minutes into the second period. Netminder Carissa Mudrak, was faced with a barrage of nine shots following Assumption's goal, stopping them all. However, Nicole Ness scored again for RIT, giving the Tigers a commanding 3-1 lead. The Hounds attempted to close the gap again, although they could not convert on their power play late in the second period.

The third period was an evenly fought match. Assumption had 16 shots in the period to RIT's 15. Each team traded shots and face-offs to open the final period of play. However, at 11:48, Jenna Chaplain scored off Cassandra Johnson's assist, bringing the Hounds back into striking distance. The Greyhounds had an excellent chance to find an equalizer, as they had another power play opportunity in the closing minutes of the contest. Assumption had four shots within that power play, including a change to tie it right before the final horn, although it was not enough to equalize as RIT defeated Assumption in the season opener, 3-2.
