2019-20 New England Women’s Hockey Alliance All-Academic Team Announced

WINTHROP, Mass. – The New England Women's Hockey Alliance recognized 107 student-athletes with 2019-20 All-Academic Team honors on Wednesday.
Seven student-athletes maintained 4.0 grade-point averages to earn Student-Athlete of the Year distinction, including Jayne Lewis (Sacred Heart), Kathleen Takita (Post), Kenzie Harmison (LIU), Kaitlin Daly (Post), Kendall Fitzgerald (Post), Bridget Fagan (Franklin Pierce), and Cannady Taleghani (Sacred Heart).
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team for the NEWHA, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.0 grade-point average in both the first and second semester. The Student-Athlete of the Year award is conveyed to the student-athlete(s) who have maintained the highest grade-point average in the league.
Sacred Heart leads the way with 27 student-athletes named to the All-Academic Team, followed by Post and its 23 selections to the list. Franklin Pierce has 21 named to the squad while LIU features 14 student-athletes. Saint Michael's was represented with 12 selections and Saint Anselm rounded out the list with 10.
Lewis, the NEWHA Player of the Year, posted 22 goals and 13 assists for 35 points (22-13=35) as a senior for Sacred Heart, ranking third in the NEWHA in point production. A recent graduate with a degree in Health Care Administration, Lewis signed with the Metropolitan Riveters (NWHL) in late February.
Takita, a junior from Post, was named to the NEWHA All-Sportswomanship Team following the campaign. The Psychology major posted three assists on defense and was named to the Fulbright-MITACS Globalink Research Program, an exclusive endeavor that allows students from the United States to conduct research projects for 10-to-12 weeks in their areas of interest.
Harmison, the Most Outstanding Player in the 2020 NEWHA postseason tournament, played in 15 games for LIU in its first season of competition and finished the year ranked fifth in the nation with a .941 save percentage. The freshman made a career-high 41 saves against Sacred Heart in the NEWHA semifinals and is majoring in Film.
Daly appeared in 17 games for the Eagles as a sophomore goaltender, making 545 saves on the season. She recorded her first collegiate shutout against Wilkes on Nov. 24, turning aside all 32 shots against. The Criminal Justice major made a season-high 55 saves at Sacred Heart on Dec. 7 and logged seven 40-plus save performances in net.
Fitzgerald skated in all 35 games as a senior for Post, scoring four goals with eight assists for 12 points (4-8=12). In a five-game stretch in mid-November, she posted two goals and three assists for five points (2-3=5) and served her team as a captain. She is a Biology major who was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America team following the year.
Fagan scored four goals and seven assists for 11 points (4-7=11) as a sophomore from Franklin Pierce after transferring from the University of Southern Maine. Logging a plus-six rating for the Ravens, the Security Studies & Forensic Investigation major helped Franklin Pierce establish a new program record for victories in 2019-20 with 21.
Taleghani, a sophomore forward who skates for Sacred Heart, played in all 32 games, notching a career-high two goals and an assist for three points (2-1=3). She is pursuing a degree in Accounting.
